Writing snippets that earn clicks
Your title tag and meta description are your storefront in search results. Even a page ranking #1 loses traffic if the snippet is bland or cut off mid-sentence. This tool shows the real estate you have to work with so you can craft a snippet that is both complete and compelling.
Quick guidelines
- Title: stay under about 580px (~55–60 characters). Lead with the primary keyword and add a benefit.
- Description: keep it under about 920px (~150–160 characters) so it isn't clipped on desktop.
- Front-load meaning: mobile shows less, so put the important words first.
- Every page unique: duplicated titles and descriptions confuse Google and waste opportunities.
Why measure pixels instead of characters?
Google truncates snippets based on rendered width. A title full of wide letters like "W" and "M" runs out of space sooner than one full of "i" and "l". Pixel measurement reflects what actually happens on the results page.
Google changed my title — why?
Google sometimes rewrites titles when it thinks another version better matches the query. Clear, accurate, well-sized titles are far less likely to be replaced.
