Why meta tags still matter
Meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but they shape how search engines and social platforms understand and display it. A sharp title and description improve your click-through rate from Google, while Open Graph and Twitter Card tags control the image, headline and text shown when your link is shared.
Best-practice lengths
- Title: keep it under ~60 characters so it isn't truncated in search results.
- Description: aim for 120–160 characters — long enough to be persuasive, short enough to show in full.
- Share image: 1200×630px works best for large social cards.
Do I need Open Graph tags if I have SEO tags?
Yes — they serve different jobs. SEO tags influence search listings; Open Graph and Twitter tags control how your link looks on Facebook, LinkedIn, X and messaging apps. Without them, platforms guess, often badly.
What is a canonical URL?
It's the "official" address of a page. If the same content is reachable at several URLs, the canonical tag tells Google which one to index, preventing duplicate-content dilution.
